I see armies of those at every con. "Whee, I bought a sweatshop coat and headband on ebay, I ARE COSPLAY".


Sorry your friend disappointed you by not finishing what you'd planned to do. But it's every fan's prerogative to put effort (or not) into costumes, and more often than not, they're fine with jeans-and-headband stuff.

Does your friend have a disposable income that's comparable to yours? Does your friend have the same kind of free time that's needed for a full-scale project like a decent cosplay? Most importantly, is your friend in any way devoted to this hobby like you were? Did they just see this as a chance to have a fun activity with you?

This. Wigs cost money, cosplay boots cost money... Some of us are poor and can barely afford going to meets at all, let alone spending huge sums on costumes. If the choice is between improving your cosplay and having food and rent money, guess what people are gonna choose?

Now if they could afford it and simply didn't care... then they're still your friend. Gently bring it up with them if it really matters to you, but don't forget a person matters more then a costume.

I'm guessing they wanted to have fun dressing up as a character. Stop whining about it and get new cosplay partners who are in it to be perfect.

You guys probably just have different priorities. I'd say, be open about yours if you plan to continue this (unless you can find a way to be okay with her half-assed costumes). Maybe offer to help? Or even if your friend disagrees and isn't interested in doing anything less casual, at least it's out in the open.
