Oh Christ, I had such a crush on Niles too. It`s mildly embarrassing but pretty reasonable, especially when you factor in that it's DHP. He was the best part of the show.

Oh man, my family and I used to watch Frasier every day after the nightly news (when it played in that timeslot). I totally shipped Niles/Daphne, and got dorkily excited when there was an episode related to his crush, hahah.

I had a crush on him too. =D

But I think the difference between the two characters (not to harsh on your squee or anything) is that Sheldon isn't concerned with romance or relationships of that facet at all.

He didn't understand friendship with girls, outside of science, and so with Penny it's a new realm for him to change and adapt. And I like that aspect of their friendship.

I like the idea of them together but I really doubt it's going to happen. They would be on too many different levels, though I think they have better chemistry in their scenes together; and I think that's only on the actor's, not the character's, part.

Yeah, I agree with your thoughts on Sheldon. I think where I draw parallels to Niles and Daphne are more to do with their different levels of intelligence :) Not to say that either Daphne nor Penny are unintelligent, but they have a different kind of intelligence compared to Niles or Sheldon.

I also sadly agree with you about Penny & Sheldon never getting together. I can't see how they could make it part of the show without tarnishing the characters a bit, but at the same time I want it so badly! I'll settle with their friendship, though, because honestly they have the best chemistry on the show. Followed closely by Howard and Raj.

Niles stole that show and it's no secret I love him. I have tried to see pretty much everything DHP has done ever since and I'm pretty sure I have the same sort of "love" for Jim Parsons in that I think he's adorable and I have so much respect for him as an actor. And if the speculation about his being gay ends up being true, that will probably cement it all for me. So I can def see where you draw the comparison, anon.

While I agree that Niles was absolutely gorgeous, and I was IN LOVE with him from age seven on...

He has absolutely nothing in common with Sheldon as a character (except perhaps a high IQ - though they are smart in entirely different ways), which leaves me mildly confused as to how you see a parallel...

But bonus secret aside: Niles has been my perfect man for as long as I can remember. XD He and Frasier are actually the reason that psychology is my minor. :3
