Marijuana isn't a big deal at all. It's only illegal because people are incredibly fucking stupid. It's better for your body than copious amounts of alcohol (which people legally consume on a daily basis in broad daylight) and cigarettes. In fact, if you eat it, it's perfectly healthy to consume as long as you aren't doing it every single day.

It's not even chemically addictive. To be perfectly honest it should be legalized, but like I said, people are incredibly fucking stupid. I just wish it was legal because I don't like having to find a dealer who is legit and purchasing it is a big hassle. That's probably why I've never bought any myself (I'm a perfect example of the "stoner" stereotype from Half Baked portrayed by Snoop Dogg -- the person who just hangs around other pot smokers in the hopes that they are allowed to share).

It's not for everyone, anon, and movies tend to conflate the high of pot with the tripping much more characteristic of other drugs. For example, marijuana is extremely unlikely to ever cause hallucinations. The real-life experience is at least somewhat different than most of those movies, and you can enjoy stoner movies perfectly well without ever having tried the real thing yourself. It doesn't make you a poser; in fact, if anything I'd say it makes you a "stoner ally". :)

Also, be aware that it is a health-risk, though pretty much only because it is smoked (smoke is always bad for your lungs, regardless of what's in it). And of course, there is the legal issue.

All that said, if the movies have made you honestly interested, there's little harm in it, and it can be a great time. Smoke through water (with ice in it, ideally) or just bypass the smoking problem by baking with it. If you do smoke, keep a glass of water handy and don't try to fill your lungs every time, because coughing sucks.

Also, be smart and deal only with people you know. Always a good idea.

I enjoy a lot of these movies and I've never smoked *shrugs*. It is possible and I don't feel like a poser or feel the need to try it.

The comments on this thread made me laugh though. It turned into like a weird peer pressure lecture about why pot is awesome and should be legal as well as many other things about the drug that I'm sure the OP has heard before assuming they're over the age of 12.

This is really true for acid, 'shrooms, ecstasy, and coke. And probably other ones I just can't think of right now. Anything else is too dangerous for me to feel alright with suggesting trying it. Not that all these drugs are 'safe' but they're the ones I'm most comfortable with. Actually I almost left coke off but it only stayed because I've known enough people that only did it once and never touched it again.

However, I gotta say, they're generally more enjoyable while high yourself. But make your own decisions! also, watch Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny, cause it's fucking awesome. and Kevin Smith's movies :D

Growing up with a pot-head brother and both parents that still occasionally indulge on holidays (my father not so much any more due to random drug testing at work), and having tried it a few times-- pot is not all that big of a deal.

Though really I don't think any pothead will give a crap if you are a poser or not? Most all the potheads in my town are pretty respectful of individual's decisions to not smoke it. And stoner movies are usually comedies, so maybe you just like that type of movie? No one's going to crucify you for liking stoner movies without being a stoner.

I'm highly in favor of smoking weed. As a matter of fact, after a long day, I'm about to smoke some right now.

I would say go for it. Do it with some friends who have done it before, but DO NOT do it with anyone who calls you a poser. :P You're allowed to like whatever you like, and if someone gives you shit for that, then you should steal their weed to go smoke with real friends.

And agreed with pretty much everyone commenting. It's really not that big a deal. Most laws against it were created for very bullshit reasons and have a history of racism. (The laws, not the weed. Weed don't care what color you are.)

If you're really that curious, try it. It won't do too much harm. But keep in mind that it affects people differently. Some people get really paranoid. Some people get the nice high that's depicted in most movies. And some people hardly feel anything.

I've personally only done it a few times. I didn't feel much. Once I was full of alcohol too. I was told that it takes a few times to really feel it. I understood that as I had to smoke copious amounts. I gave up on it either way. Pot isn't bad for you, but smoke in your lungs (no matter what the substance is) is not.

Just because I love musicals doesn't mean I'm a poser for not waking up in the morning and singing about running out of coffee creamer. But then hey, if you're curious, just do it. Getting high or drunk once in a while is called moderation and is fine, but becoming an addict of anything is not a good idea, and if you know you have an addictive personality, you may as well not bother.

That said, dude, I am so disappointed that Half Baked isn't on here. That's my all time favorite stoner movie.
