I like the idea of using that black hole to Quantum Leap into different fandom universe. One leap you'll be Malcolm Reynolds, the next you'll be Detective Stabler, Spike Spiegel, Jack O'Neill or John Connor. Or even Sarah Connor.
Ah, it's good to be geeky.

Fandom Leap, that's an awesome idea.

Oh, I love how right that name sounds.

Sadly, it only works if they existed during your own lifetime.

Unless you're a five-year-old, most of those have =p

No, no, no...

The "leaper" (Sam Beckett, played by Scott Backula in the original series) is only able to "leap" into the personas of other people at some point in his/her own lifetime. That's why Sam was able to go back as far as the early 1950's, but not before. (Except one time, due to a glitch.)

The theory behind his time travel endeavors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_Leap_(TV_series)#Physics_of_leaping) was that you could "leap" to any point in the flow of time between two descreet points, those points being the beginning and ending of a person's lifetime. It was explained as an analogy with a piece of string (having a definite beginning and end) that you could tie in a loop, then crumple into a ball so that you could jump from one point in the string to another because they were now touching.

The side effect (aside from a "Swiss-cheesed" memory) was that you were you, but sort of had a cloaking aura that made you appear as someone else to the rest of the world, effectively "leaping" INTO that person, while they took your place in the lab.

I know, I've been rewatching it the last few weeks. Though I understand the physics of it all would be much more lax in an affectionate parody =p
