(Anonymous) 2010-06-09 04:57 am (UTC)(link)You would be surprised at how many published 'real' authors plagiarise material too. (Heck, I've heard of some even plagiarising the work of fanfic authors. In one case, I've even seen the author apologise personally to the fanfic writer they stole the work and original characters from).
Plagiarism is bad, and frowned upon by basically all people who consume and produce fanfic, just as it is with the public in general. Aligning plagiarists with fanfic just makes no sense. You may as well say that original fiction is bad because original fiction writers can and have plagiarised each other and are often not caught. The same argument you're using works just as well against original fiction writers, which means it falls down completely as an anti-fanfic reason.
