Maybe if he'd left in the whole Torture Chamber scene - "The grasshopper hops and he hops jolly high!" - or the Erik sobbing "she kissed me! she kissed me!" over and over again as he's coughing his lungs up as the poor Persian is trying to figure out if Christine's still alive or Erik's skill at anything like counterweights, architecture, music, mirror tricks, weapons, etc, the first musical might have been redeemed, but now he's taking away the small measure of dignity he left to Erik by having Erik have the ability to love her enough to realize that she wants Raoul and to set her free at the end of his first musical? Seriously? ALW, Erik wants his dignity back!
