Um, I don’t think this guy is a tool at all. It sounds like he is guilty and ashamed that he broke something that was so important to his wife (probably why he made a fandomsecret about it) and the fact that he was comparing it crying at a funeral was just emphasizing how important it was to her. I read all of the comments about the obligation of crying at a funeral and I agree. However, everyone is totally overanalyzing the crying bit. He obviously made the secret because he felt guilty about it, and he can’t tell anyone else. Why else would this be a fandomsecret? “Haha! I broke my wife’s special thing.”? That doesn’t make any sense.

If he's old enough to be getting married and fathering children, he's old enough to let his testicles finally descend and own up to breaking an OBJECT. Unless he thinks the object means more to his wife than he does, in which case he needs to file for divorce tomorrow.

The more I thought about this, the more it occurred to me this MUST be a troll secret. I suppose it could be real, but there are two things that seem off: Is this guy the only one in the house with Internet access and, if so, is he really the only one who reads F!S? And if he's not - wouldn't she know when she sees the secret, what happened, if it's real?

veronica_rich answered this for me, with an extra dose of snark: this man has been married, presumably to a woman he loves, and fathered children. One can therefore say he is in a position to own up to what he did and make restitution in his own way. The fact that he has proclaimed his resolution to not do that? DNW.

Also, if OP's wife ended up punishing the son--even with a timeout or whatever--for something he most certainly didn't do, it's not fair to him either. Even if it turns out to be nothing more than The Embarrassing When-You-Were-Three Story That Won't Go Away.
