Ok, just a general announcement.

ONE, "trigger warnings" are for COMMON triggers only. Things like talk of rape, abuse, child abuse, eating disorders, self-harm, serious drug use, and suicide are common triggers. Less common ones are homo/transphobia/gender dysphoria, blood, needles, knives -- or traumatic events (Holocaust, genocides, earthquakes, 9/11, you know what I'm talking about). Gender identity is not a common trigger. Food is not a common trigger. Mudkips (mudkips, really?) are not a common trigger. Someone just gave me a secret with a trigger warning listed for a whole movie. No. You are doing triggers wrong.

TWO, RFTM. Or the FAQs, at least.
They're right here: http://community.livejournal.com/fandomsecrets/104153.html
- Why isn't my secret up!?!? Question 4.
- Why is the subs post closed!?!? Question 9.
- How come my second secret got posted before the first!? Is it lost!?!? Question 7.
- HOW DOES I JOINED!? IT'S THE FIRST QUESTION.

That's it. (:

Uh, I don't think you quite understand triggers.

This isn't people hiding their eyes from the world, it's people who have been through a traumatic experience and have suffered serious emotional and mental damage from it. Eg, reading a secret about incest might trigger someone who went through that situation as a child, and make them relive that situation and those emotions, have a panic attack, etc. Or a rape victim. Or someone who was once suicidal. Do you see what I mean?

Perhaps they shouldn't read fandom secrets, then.

It's not necessary to read fandom secrets.

No, but when the majority of secrets don't deal with those issues, I don't see the problem with taking two seconds to put a trigger on something, allowing those people to join in the fun. I would think, though, that if someone is being triggered often by various things, they would stop reading. But if it's not even a one secret per post type thing, then yeah, I think it's nice to just add the text warning so they can keep enjoying f!s.

Yes, and I agree with you if it's rape/noncon or something really disturbing.

FOOD?

No. GTFO on that one.

We're in agreement there. What [livejournal.com profile] technophile said about common triggers elsewhere in the thread, I support that.
