Ok, just a general announcement.
ONE, "trigger warnings" are for COMMON triggers only. Things like talk of rape, abuse, child abuse, eating disorders, self-harm, serious drug use, and suicide are common triggers. Less common ones are homo/transphobia/gender dysphoria, blood, needles, knives -- or traumatic events (Holocaust, genocides, earthquakes, 9/11, you know what I'm talking about). Gender identity is not a common trigger. Food is not a common trigger. Mudkips (mudkips, really?) are not a common trigger. Someone just gave me a secret with a trigger warning listed for a whole movie. No. You are doing triggers wrong.
TWO, RFTM. Or the FAQs, at least.
They're right here: http://community.livejournal.com/fandomsecrets/104153.html
- Why isn't my secret up!?!? Question 4.
- Why is the subs post closed!?!? Question 9.
- How come my second secret got posted before the first!? Is it lost!?!? Question 7.
- HOW DOES I JOINED!? IT'S THE FIRST QUESTION.

(Anonymous) 2010-06-26 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)ever heard of bulimia? ever heard of binge eating disorder? people with those conditions eat HUGE amounts of food and recovery is hard as fuck. the sight or mention of the foods you used to binge on can very definitely be triggering. that's why recovery is so damn hard, it's likely the foods you binged on are available EVERYWHERE YOU GO.

It's shit luck for those with eating disorders, but the specific foods that trigger you are just that -- specific triggers. Someone could be triggered into panic attacks by balloons, but that doesn't make it common trigger. But "food" is really way too generic a topic to warn as for a trigger. What about "eating?"

A) you can't compare alcoholism and drug-abuse to eating disorders because they don't work the same way.
B) specific foods are not common enough triggers to be common triggers, and food-in-general is way too common to warn for.

(Anonymous) 2010-06-26 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)FOOD is too common of a THING, let alone a trigger. How do people watch any television show or movie or go to the mall. Food is everywhere.
People with really specific triggers need to get a friend to preview the comm for them or something.

As a disclaimer, I do not think one should post a warning for food as a possible trigger.
