Ok, just a general announcement.

ONE, "trigger warnings" are for COMMON triggers only. Things like talk of rape, abuse, child abuse, eating disorders, self-harm, serious drug use, and suicide are common triggers. Less common ones are homo/transphobia/gender dysphoria, blood, needles, knives -- or traumatic events (Holocaust, genocides, earthquakes, 9/11, you know what I'm talking about). Gender identity is not a common trigger. Food is not a common trigger. Mudkips (mudkips, really?) are not a common trigger. Someone just gave me a secret with a trigger warning listed for a whole movie. No. You are doing triggers wrong.

TWO, RFTM. Or the FAQs, at least.
They're right here: http://community.livejournal.com/fandomsecrets/104153.html
- Why isn't my secret up!?!? Question 4.
- Why is the subs post closed!?!? Question 9.
- How come my second secret got posted before the first!? Is it lost!?!? Question 7.
- HOW DOES I JOINED!? IT'S THE FIRST QUESTION.

That's it. (:

I wouldn't say "dumb" because, as you've seen here, it ticks off sensitive folk. There's nothing wrong with being sensitive, but it's not going to do oneself any favors in the real world.

Regardless, I would think that anyone truly traumatized to the point where a photograph would cause them a panic attack or a severe psychological reaction, would either A) not be on fandom secrets, B) wouldn't stand up and draw attention to such a terrible thing from their past by complaining about a lack of warning, C) would stop going to fandom secrets should they have actually stumbled upon F!S in the first place.

Furthermore, things that are "trigger worthy" can be easily avoided in other ways.... Like scrolling down a page. Or for Firefox Users, they can use AdBlock Plus to block a particular image. One right click and one left click and the problem's sloved.

I think something like a trigger warning could be useful but shouldn't plastered all over a secret post just to avoid stepping on toes-- life doesn't work like that and neither does the internet. As a matter of fact, for people who come to F!S and have had trauma happened to them could very well find secrets related to the bad events in their past therapeutic in the context that someone else knows what they've gone through. Slamming some red font before a secret could instantly deter a person from finding an anon they can relate to that could very well help with the healing process.

I don't know, I just think trigger warnings are to be used sparingly. And I think everyone's being hypocritcal-- they're all chewing out this one person, accusing him of insensitivity, for stating his opinion. Why not be a little sensitive his right to voice said opinion? Agree to disagree and move on, perhaps.

there's also the fact that not everyone warns for triggers. wtf is technophile supposed to do? put them down themselves if someone forgets to? it's not a job, people are acting like they pay for this shit.

frankly, i thought some of the trigger warnings on the resent post were pretty weak, but who am I to judge? I scroll past them just the same. but in the past, there were a few posts (one very memorable one) where there was no warning for an image that came up, and tech had missed it (some people were really aggressive about this - which i thought was kind of absurd, shit happens right?) but i totally understood right there and then why it might seriously bother people out there. I'm pretty certain f!s lost some readers that day.

so no, I don't think every little thing needs to be censored, but some things really should have a warning. This post explains that.

I think it's enough that tech already goes out of the way to make sure images that are NSFW are kept under a cut. I don't see the necessity to censor anything other than obscenities like pornographic images.

Pornography =/= Obscenity.
