I'm learning English 'cause I am not a native speaker, and I am very afraid all the bad grammar and spelling in fanfics will make my English skills worse and worse, so yeah D:

[identity profile] caelith.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
lol. I was gnashing my teeth at a fic earlier. "There getting in the car," "I don't want to loose you!" etc.

[identity profile] lljscrawls.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Argh, it never fails to piss me off when I see "lose" misspelled as "loose." It's a serious, serious, serious pet peeve of mine. >

[identity profile] ferricent.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I do the same thing with "pharaoh." ( Pharoahe Monch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pharoahe_Monch) doesn't help.)

[identity profile] kimchiburger.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I usually end up preemptively getting pissed at "lose" before I notice it's actually correct. I see it misspelled so often that it gets me off balance when it's right. D:

Mmm-hmm. Even more often-- breath and breathe. :/

[identity profile] rabidsamfan.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah! That one really annoys me. Lose/loose fades in comparison!

[identity profile] arlettylin.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL I came here to post that xD. It's so irritating - I don't get how people can think that "I can't breath!" looks right :/

[identity profile] aeonamber.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
S'one of my pet peeves and it comes up so much D:

[identity profile] demiincarnate.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too, for some words! Peek, peak, and pique for me especially. Since they're so often used idiomatically, it's hard to know which one is correct sometimes.

[identity profile] veronica-rich.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
You can ignore or laugh at it, but I find it helps to use confusing words in the same sentence or two just to show the contrast and it helps me keep track of their meaning. For example, to put a sexy spin on yours maybe: "I peeked under the sheet and glimpsed the peak of her breast; my interest was definitely piqued."

[identity profile] dark-kaomi.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I know right? Led is another one. LEAD IS AN ELEMENT PEOPLE.

[identity profile] sochitelya.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
lol I rarely read fanfic, but just seeing it around the interbutts has made me do the same thing.

(Anonymous) 2010-06-26 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
My big one? Defiantly for definitely.

(Anonymous) 2010-06-27 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Lol, this. I don't know how anyone cannot notice that it sounds totally different when you pronounce it and that it's a DIFFERENT WORD!

[identity profile] kookaburra1701.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
I actually caught myself typing "reigned in" the other day.

FANDOM WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME

[identity profile] demishock.livejournal.com 2010-06-27 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I do that, too. I've also gotten to the point where when I see "you're welcome" instead of "your welcome" I have to tilt my head for a second, because I'm SO USED to people doing it the latter (wrong) way. It's kind of infuriating.
