I'm not really happy with Cap's casting either, but I'm trustin Evans to do a good job. He's a competent enough actor, but I'm not sure he can fit the bill without sounding cocky or preachy. I think it all comes down to how the character is written.

Either way, I don't think it will ruin the fandom. There will probably be a huge influx of new fans with the new movies, but with the bad comes the good, fandom growth isnt always a bad thing.

This might be just because I don't have a very high opinion of the slaher part of the Robert Downey Jr. fans, but I'd bet good money that you only feel this way because Chris Evans is not ~seme~ enough for you and GOD FORBID ONE OF DOWNEY'S CHARACTERS ACTUALLY TOPS ONCE.

There was a Captain America movie in 1990. Matt Salinger played Steve Rogers. It ruined the fandom, Marvel cancelled the comic, went out of business and there was never any new Captain America stuff ever made ever again. True story.

Ruin fandom? Wow... that's overdramatic. You know, people did this very same thing with RDJ, Heath Ledger, Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Michael Keaton (well, everyone who ever played Bats) and every other comic book movie in history.

If that's enough for fandom to be ruined for you; if you can't be happy with the comics and that canon or just turn a blind eye (like the rest of us have done with bad casting in the past) well... don't let the door hit you on the way out.

My first, childish reaction was: "Not fair, he already got to play Human Torch! >:|" Then I thought, what happens if they want to do a Fantastic Four/Avengers/Captain America/whatever crossover movie? :-/

That seriously was my thought process, though. There are other actors I'd be more interested to see as Cap. Ones that give off a different vibe than Evans or older actors because it makes more sense to me that Cap'd be closer to Tony's age.

Also I'm kinda bummed that I'll probably never get to see Alexander Skarsgard as Thor.

And then I remember it's just movies/comic books and I don't need to be all SERIOUS BUSINESS about it.
