Actually, yeah, yeah, it does. That's precisely what it means. If you have same-sex fantasies, you're not a 0 on the Kinsey scale, and that means you're not 100% straight.

But, y'know, way to judge people for self-discovery. *eyeroll*

(Anonymous) 2010-06-26 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Dumb troll. OP never attacked anyone for self-discovery, OP expressed frustration that people are processing their self-discovery according to old and outmoded ideas of sexuality. Ideas that, not incidentally, you are perpetuating (Oh my God, Kinsey Scale? Really? Are we in 1948 now?) Straights who are, quote, "100% straight," meeting your restrictive definition of never having any same-sex desire at any time during the entirety of their lives, are extremely rare. Straights as most people understand the term, however, are not. Insisting that anyone who finds a same-sex desire in themselves or even just enjoys a same-sex fantasy has left the population of "straights" is therefore ... really fucking dumb. Which I suppose is what you're going for, so... congrats, or some shit.

+1

well done. much applause anon!

(Anonymous) 2010-06-27 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Um, I've been involved deeply in the GLBT community for over a decade, and I've almost NEVER (with TWO exceptions, in ten years) met a gay or lesbian identified person who has NEVER in their lives been attracted to a person of the OPPOSITE sex. Are you going to tell me that means their straight or bisexual? Because that would be huge news to them.

I don't understand why it would work the other way.

(Anonymous) 2010-06-27 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Also, OP makes a point that he/she DOES believe people have come to REAL self-discovery because of fandom; but not everyone who finds themselves attracted to a SINGLE person outside of their preference should suddenly be freaking out that, "oh my God, maybe that really ISN'T my preference?!"

Where's that Dan Savage video where he talks about the ONE GIRL he'd ever fuck?

[identity profile] bloodrivendream.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for mentioning it, it was interesting, I hadn't actually seen that Dan Savage video before but I remembered there being a bunch of them on YouTube.

[identity profile] paytofay.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It's really easy to ignore a shitload of homework when you've got his channel around, heh

[identity profile] bloodrivendream.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Luckily I am currently on summer break because I just spent the last half hour watching videos from his channel.

(Anonymous) 2010-06-26 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
this is awesome! power to that guy!

(Anonymous) 2010-06-26 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Just because they're not interesting for you doesn't make it wrong to post them here. It's called Fandom Secrets for a reason.

Surely they're just as poignant as the "Looking for the A to my B" or "Fandom is my life" secrets.

(Anonymous) 2010-06-27 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Wow! You're completely right! 100% correct!

Or you would be if the secret you were replying to had said anything about finding such secrets not interesting, which, as a matter of fact,

Erm, I know it's offtopic and all but how'd you do that scrolling effect?

(Anonymous) 2010-06-27 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Not the person you're responding to, but a simple ctrl+f of "IT DIDN'T" in the page source reveals the tags used to scroll and blink to be:
<marquee><blink>IT DIDN'T</blink></marquee>

(Anonymous) 2010-06-26 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! I find it strange, however, that so many people question their sexuality just because of one crush. I am a straight girl and I find it to be no big deal if I think a girl is hot. I don't immediately question my sexual orientation. Sorry to offend anyone who does figure out their sexuality this way, but like the OP I think it is over blown.

(Anonymous) 2010-06-26 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Why are these secrets so hard to understand?

I consider myself a straight girl through and through. On rare occasions I might discover a person/character I find hittable EVEN THOUGH they totally go against my narrow preferences, be it that they're women or a weird age or something. That doesn't make me "question my sexuality" at all. No.

I just wonder what the hell it is about THAT specific person that creates such an exception in me.

(Anonymous) 2010-06-27 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Good lord I'm sick of hearing this. We've been over this before, it's not going to stop, so shut up about it.
