but after watching Ponyo, I can't help but focus on their age... :|

I know what you mean. Then again, when Spirited Away came out when I was ten so the ages weren't a problem. Then Ponyo came out, obviously I was years older, and I was bothered by the shipping because of the ages.

I don't understand this. You can fall in love at 5, at 11 or at 21. Why is the age a problem ? Because you think love always includes fucking ? O_O

I think it's weird that they try to portray (moreso in Ponyo) an everlasting, romantic love for children. I don't think only old people can fall in love, but that's weird that they put so much responsibility on children to understand a complex emotion like love.

no no I feel the same way!--if you're saying you prefer to ship them as friends. Maybe it's because I watched only the English version, but they just seem awkward as something romantic :X I think it's cuter if the love between them was friendship-based and completely platonic. :O

I ship them in a friendly, fluffy, vaguely romantic but non-sexual way. Like childhood friends who'll eventually grow up and realise they have other feelings for each other.

I can see your reasoning for not shipping them, though. Platonically they're still extremely cute.

I don't ship them romantically, but they are deathly cute together! (and by "together" in my context here, I just mean being around each other). this scene and this part of it always makes me "AWWW" like a bitch :')

*flail* I have so many feelings about this movie and this ship omg pardon my rambling.

When I first saw the movie I was ten and so I was happy they weren't spelled out as a couple because I hated romance then and wanted them to be friends and it was my favorite movie. Then years passed and I kind of forgot about it but then recently I rewatched it and overidentified SO HARD with Chihiro and guh now I want them to be together because I had a similar kind of relationship only if I wrote it now it would be less fluffy and more complicated and angsty and yeah basically I love them too.

that scene made me cry

I felt the writing of their romance was forced and clumsy. I think the poor quality of their love story is the only flaw in the film.

I'm not sure which is my favorite love story: these two in Spirited Away or Pazu and Sheeta in Castle in the Sky. Both are so freaking adorable. ^_^
