True. But even still, That would be a way of saying that any kind of love between those two would have been possible, if not necessary to keep Jesus grounded, because it's all as equally human. Then again, I'm really not the best to judge what he may or may not have needed, since my Christian studies were a long time ago, and I'll be the first to admit I'm not all that invested in this. I just dropped by since I was bothered by the whole "I'm going to Hell for shipping this" part.

I was bothered by it too, but I am also slightly bothered by the move from "I ship Jesus/Mary Magdalene" to "heterosexual romance/intercourse was integral to Jesus' experience as a human being".

Yeah, okay, I did go into it half-cocked. A little more thought would have gone a lot farther if I'd just said that any kind of love would have been necessary to keep Jesus connected to the people he worked with, not just romantic. (in my own defense, I wasn't even thinking about the sex so much as the interpersonal connection you get with another human being when you are in a relationship, but since we were talking ABOUT shipping, naturally, that's where it leads.)

But it is very canonical that he did have have a loving relationship with his disciples (Mary Magdalene included) - that is what it was so shocking that Judas betrayed him with a kiss. It was a mockery of that relationship - usually called agape by the Christian writers, but I reckon there was a fair amount of philia involved as well. The conversation with Peter in John 21 is beautiful for that reason; the different kinds of love are acknowledged. :D
