Just watch out, though. Jim is not a good person. It's perfectly feasible that your man only reflects the good qualities of Jim Halpert, but when you get farther into the show- you'll see. The way he treats Dwight and Andy are not cool, especally since he knows that Andy has anger problems. Also, what he did to Pam and Roy is pretty skeezy and what he did to his girlfriend, Karen, was even worse.

The stuff with Andy is what made me stop watching :(

[identity profile] noforcenosound.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I couldn't believe it when

SPOILER ALERT TO OP

he up and left Karen in New York with no way to get home because he'd decided he loved Pam. Then immediately came back to the office to romance her.

People who think that shit is romantic are, I swear, the same ones who think Edward Cullen is a loving boyfriend. Cause that's just straight up creepy. I felt so terrible for Karen, even though I know she saw it coming.

[identity profile] steph313.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG ARE YOU ME? I couldn't agree with this comment more.

Seriously, I ended up leaving the Office fandom (I actually stopped watching the show one season later because of how bad it started to get) because of the reaction to Karen getting dumped and left in NY got ("Oh, she'd find a way back...She said she had friends there, so what's the big deal? SQUEE JAM!") Actually, the treatment Karen got period made me start to hate the fandom. It was gross.

[identity profile] noforcenosound.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
I love Karen, she's my favorite character and she's also played by Rashida Jones, who is hot and awesome. I can't understand the amount of hate she gets because she gets in the way of the fandom's golden couple; I don't see people hating on Roy like that.

When I saw how Jim basically ruined his own, Pam's, and Roy's lives for one kiss (Roy getting into that drunk car accident was particularly sad) and then LATER left his girlfriend in New York with no heads up to go back to the same girl who's wedding he'd wrecked (and she took him! wtf) I decided he was a total moron.

[identity profile] angary.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I remember feeling really bad for Karen then, even though I was mostly rooting for Pam/Jim (at the time, though, I did like Karen/Jim and Karen in general. I'm glad she went on to have a happy, successful life). That was incredibly thoughtless of Jim.

However, I'm fuzzy on what you meant by "Then immediately came back to the office to romance her." Did he go back to Karen again? I can't really remember. Hmm, I'll have to look up recaps or something.

Anyway, I totally agree about Jim's treatment of Andy. I always personally thought that Dwight deserved to be taken down a few notches now and then, but the Jello and cell phone pranks were more unsettling than funny to me, and not in a LOL awkward way, more like D: unsettling.

[identity profile] goodgollygopher.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to agree that the way he treats Dwight is horrible, but... I have to admit it is really, really, REALLY fun to watch. I had a guy in my class who was pretty much a Dwight-clone (the only really big difference was Dwight's respect for authority- in this guy's opinion, he is THE MOST AWESOME PERSON EVER... which in itself is pretty Dwight-like) and I had to work with him a few times. Urrrgh. Maybe it's the inner bitch in me, but some of the stuff that Jim does to Dwight just makes me want to golf-clap. Aheh.

[identity profile] oflittlebrain.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
He's a character with flaws. Most people also have flaws. I wouldn't say it makes him "not a good person", exactly.

But yeah, the thing with Karen was fucked up. Pam and Roy weren't going to work out, though, Jim or no Jim.

[identity profile] noforcenosound.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
I really think that if Jim and Pam hadn't kissed, Pam and Roy would have gotten married and lived happily enough; they really did love each other. And even if they had broken up, I like the "no Jim" option better, where Roy doesn't have to go through a mental crisis where he drinks a ton and gets fired and beats people up at work. THAT was Jim's fault.

(Anonymous) 2010-06-29 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
lol you are totally delusional. no i'm not some "JAM 4EVER" fangirl but it's like we're watching two different shows. the main difference being that i am watching it CORRECTLY and you are not.

(Anonymous) 2010-06-29 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
You're going to blame Jim and Pam for Roy's drunk driving? You think that Roy and Pam would have made a happy married couple? REALLY?

[identity profile] sweetwater-tx.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, I agree with you that Jim is not the amazing, perfect guy he's sometimes made out to be, but I don't think it's fair to blame him for Roy's decisions. Yes, maybe he was the impetus for this emotional crisis, but Roy is still responsible for how he deals with that crisis. His actions on his own fault, not Jim's.

[identity profile] sweetwater-tx.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, that came off as really aggressive. I'm not trying to pick fights on the internet, I just think it's important to assign responsibility where it's due. Hope that came through!

[identity profile] soymade.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oh hey, those are all my opinions too. THIEF!

(Yeah I'm trying to come up with something a tad more creative than "this")

(Anonymous) 2010-06-29 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
you're a complete moron, but let me just point something out to you regarding jim, pam, karen and roy:

shit like that HAPPENS. it happened in my office. not every exact plot point but two co-workers left their spouses quite abruptly for each other. yeah, it sucks for karen and roy. but it doesn't make jim and pam bad people.

also, if you think that dwight and andy are anything more than caricatures of office personalities, you've missed the point by a country mile.
