I'm really DYING to know what animes you watch that you think "most" anime girls are like that. My bets are on hentai.

Er, no, actually not.
If you compare stereotypical heroines of shoujo series, you will notice that most of them share the feature of being dependent on a man in one way or another (Sailormoon, all Yuu Watase series etc). That applies to many shounen series too. Also, girls who seems strong at first (i.e. Sakura of Naruto) prove to have the same character trait.

But there are plenty of anime girls that aren't like that -- see icon for example. 8) Admittedly, I'm not way into anime like I used to be, but I think it's unfair to say "most."

(Judging from the wikipedia description of the character she seems like a plain mary sue to me :)
But sure, there are exceptions - but they're rare because the reception for realistic characters is not as good as for tragic/beautiful/special/dependent ones because they don't meet the Japanese ideal of women.
