It's certainly an idea! It would fit well. Lockhart utilizing his inborn talents in a very self-aggrandizing way and never EVER mentioning veela blood for fear of seeming impure and thus turning off a portion of his fangirls.

More realistically, however, I think JKR hadn't come up with the idea of veelas in a concrete way when she came up with Lockhart. I think if you wanted to retcon a little bit, and give Lockhart more of a backstory and investigate him in some fanfic, you could totally give him some veela heritage and it would make for an interesting read.

I don't know why you say people don't care about Lockhart. He teaches a HUGE lesson to Harry (by example) and keeps Harry on the path to not being a gigantic asshole. I think that's important enough of a role to care about Lockhart. Furthermore, Lockhart shows up in a lot of Neville fanfic, chillaxing with the brain-addled Longbottoms, and he's always one of the more hilarious or interesting parts of those stories.

I could ramble on for hours. It's not like the internet is running out of space. If you want to theorize about HP, you do it, OP.

That... is awesome. I never thought of that possibility, yet always wondered how the hell Lockhart could get so many fangirls and have them all believe his obviously made-up stories. I think it's amusing that JKR deliberately made him a parallel of some obnoxious, vain guy she knew, but the Veela background makes so much sense, too. Too bad you never got to ask Rowling about that :P

Neat theory-- it would definitely explain why Hermoine was somewhat impressed with him, despite obviously being a douche. I had always assumed he used spells and potions, but I like your theory better.
