(Anonymous) 2010-07-16 01:47 am (UTC)(link)See, at this point...no. It's like saying Jeff Dunham's jokes aren't racist because the puppets say them and then he reprimands them for being racist. Maybe in the beginning, sure, but now...not so much. The joke isn't "Wow, that guy's so stupid, he thinks rape is acceptable." The joke is "Heheheh, he's gonna rape that girl! How wacky!" In a more general term, what makes most of his jokes funny involve the audience making the leap themselves--which is why it seems guys still enjoy the later seasons more than girls.
Also, a lot of the jokes these days just revolve around a running gag that's run too long, or doing something utterl terribly because shocking people is a pretty cheap, easy way to make them laugh without actually trying to be funny. It's so much dead baby humor.

(Anonymous) 2010-07-16 07:50 am (UTC)(link)I used to be a big fan of Family Guy, and I'll still catch an episode here and there to check in with it, but pretty much the reason I stopped watching was that there was a rape joke in EVERY EPISODE, and it wasn't critical satirical humor so much as HAHA! Rape!
I haven't seen as much of it on American Dad, so I've been watching that more. Dammit, I can't help it. If it wasn't for the increasing misogyny in Family Guy, I'd probably still be a fervent watcher. It makes me sad. :(
