I agree about the Mary Sue thing. And the misogyny surrounding Ginny is absolutely disgusting.

BUt people are allowed to hate H/G.I enjoy them, but I can understand why people wouldn't. Even I would have preferred them to be fleshed out more.

I do see misogyny around her when people consider her whorish for dating, what, three guys? I can't remember, but lots of girls date a few boys, and lots of girls date lots of boys, and I don't see how it is a mark of character at all unless they are abusive or something. Which Ginny isn't.

But I don't think that identifying her as a Mary Sue is a mark of misogyny on its own. There are plenty of things non-gender-specific that can be considered Suish just as there are many things in male characters in the series that can be considered Stuish. The way she's written, though, does give the impression that she is the 'perfect woman' for Harry, and I think that rubs people the wrong way because it's not realistic where so much of the series is, especially with character development. But relationships are really not JKR's strong point, there are issues with basically all of them. But I think when we got so much development with Ron and Hermione, people expected more from Harry's eventual ship and JKR didn't deliver with Ginny.
