I lurk in multiple fandoms at once, there are just so many fun and interesting fandoms out there. This works well for me.
My sister, she pretty much can't be in more than one fandom at a time. She focuses all her fandom-energy on that, it's a bit confusing for her to be in multiple fandoms at once.
Different people, different ways of fandom...ing.
(On a slightly unrelated note, I tend to go through fandoms in a cycle, i.e. I'll like something for a while, lose interest, then rediscover it and get back into it. For me, that happens over and over, there's MAYBE one or two fandoms I've left permanently. As for my sister, once she loses interest, it's over, she never really goes back/regains interest.)

I do it more like you do.
I lurk in many fandoms at once.
I rarely totally lose interest in a fandom. I may ignore a certain fandom for a bit but I pretty much always go back to them.

Granted, I have had a primary fandom for the past few years. It is odd. Because before I really go into that one, I never had any fandom that could be considered primary and just always lurked in many fandoms.
