I thought there were lots of moments in the back nine that were pretty great. I think perhaps people's expectations got a little high, understandable when they were feeling defensive against those that don't like the show.

I didn't adore them, but there were individuals moments that I loved so much that I don't mind nearly as much ("SAFETY DANCE," OKAY. FUCKIN' "SAFETY DANCE." WIN.) Also, obnoxious Glee hate is annoying as hale.

I couldn't agree more. Sure, there were some not-so-spectacular episodes and definite weakness in terms of continuity, etc., but there were issues in the fall episodes too.

I believe that the only reason the back nine got so much heat was because of how much attention the series had gotten over the hiatus and how much expectation was riding on the show to be completely brilliant. No show could have withstood so much scrutiny.

I think part of the reason the back nine gets so much hate is because it was sillier before and not trying as hard to address serious issues whilst still being a ridiculous comedy. People found more reasons to dislike it when it was trying to take itself somewhat seriously.

Continuity concerns aside, because the last few episodes got all messed up at the last minute due to producer meddling, I think the back nine are excellent.

People who don't like the B9 for reasons other than continuity concern are in my experience mostly people who couldn't deal with the characters actually becoming flawed, complicated human beings instead of funny stereotypes. Honestly I don't get the -intense- love for the first 13, until around "Wheels" I wasn't all that impressed.

I did enjoy the pilot, but it took me until April Rhodes to really get that Glee was finding its feet. I think the back 9 had their problems (too much focus on the music, dropped plotlines, and the whole misuse of Jesse thing), but I actually think that the first episodes had as many, if not MORE, issues and I was very satisfied with the season finale. I also thought that some of the back 9 were among the best episodes of the show so far, especially "Dream On" because Neil Patrick Harris can do no wrong. So do not fear Anon, you are not alone!

Yeah. I agree with you, OP. I think most Glee fans look at the first episodes of the series through rose colored glasses. Hell, I was wondering if I was watching the same show.
