I am white, but I'm far from privileged. I wish people who spout this privileged crap would realize that USA=/=whole fucking world. And that enthnicity of 'white people' does matter too.

That's a counter-assumption on your part - I'm not American. I'm Irish, so I'm well aware of the complex problem that arise in Europe between different white races (look up accounts of the Travelling Community in Ireland for an example close to home), the stigma that used to accompany being Irish, and the troubles and discrimination that religion can cause even in the abscence of race.

I'm still privileged. I don't pretend to know your situation, and it's entirely possible that you have suffered racial discrimination (perhaps anti-semitism, which is a good example of racism within the white community), but you'd still be privileged for various reasons. It's not your fault, it's not something you need to feel guilty about, but unless you're commonly mistaken as a minority, it probably is something you need to think about.

Dude, you're from Western Europe. Yes, YOU are priviledged but not everyone is.

IDK the Irish have a pretty harsh history. I'm sure there are pockets that would be called priviledged, but I'm not sure anyone who really understands the culture can call it priviledged as a whole. But I only say this as somone who has studied...not an expert.

Well, Irish people did and still have a lot of problems, but there is far less prejudice assigned to people from the brittish islands than is to people from mainland Europe and especially from eastern Europe. Russian/Ukraine/Serbian/Slovakian white man from middle class is not going to have the same "privilege" as Irish/Brittish/(most of the time)French white man from middle class.

Well the Irish are one of the few Western European countries that is still fairly receptive to American tourism, which is probably why they appear to be doing so well, because France and Britain have kind of closed their borders, or at least made it extremely difficult for an American to enter. Why? IDK, the French hate us? And Britain is scared. Americans aren't apparently the only ones they're turning away. All those bombings and threats...so, yeah, Ireland, finally starting to climb its way on par with the rest of the Western world, or so it appears because Britain and France are doing so lousy.

It's ashame more people don't even attempt to visit Eastern Europe more.
