>He sold out Britain

The Lib Dems have ever had enough power to do that? He sold out the Liberal Democrat Party, yeah, but Britain? I think you'll find that was more Labour's fault for shifting everyone to the Conservative Party.

I think you'll find that most people voted for progressive ideas, against any rises in VAT and the violent hacks taken to spending that aren't needed and will harm many families at the poorer end of the scale and unemployment is going to rise a lot. It isn't so much a matter of if this will be a double dip recession now, more of WHEN. And I've heard more than political people around me say this.

So yes, by siding with the Tories in a coalition like they have they sold us out. Its members, those who voted for them to try and keep the Tories out and everyone who thought they were the honest, trustworthy people who were progressive but without the dirt and grime of actual government in recent times. Because they aren't a new party no matter what Clegg kept trying to hint out. They sold all of them out, and all the people who voted against Tory policies.

As themselves they didn't have tons of power, no. But they were still King Makers, still the deciders of who would have the power and how much of it. What do you think all the news stories in the days following were about?

You know what they could have done if they couldn't stand the idea of forming a progressive coalition? Let the Tories run a minority Government and take each vote, each idea on a case by case basis and acting, along with the others, as a sort of watch dog on the lot. Demand changes that kept with the progressive values they claimed to follow (and then promptly threw out the taxi as soon as they got a taste of power).

But they didn't. Why else are so many of those joining the Labour Party former Lib Dem voters/members? Why else are LD councillors up and down the country so pissed off and publicly expressing their discontent? Hell, you should see the factions this has split the local ones into.

They sold us out.

The taxi is an old joke from a bit back if you're not aware. It used to be said you could fit all the Lib Dem MPs into one taxi.

Wrong, the majority of the country voted Conservative. So, for the VAT rise and for "Conservative" ideas.

But YES I agree - they sound the Liberal voters out, but they did not sell the country out. We like to think that the country wants left wing but, they don't, they want right wing. That's what the polls have told us. The government has to respect the majority.

And this is coming from a Liberal Democrat voter who has been with the party actively for three years. I just hate the idea that everyone should focus their hate on the Liberal Democrats where the fall of centre-left is a mix of all three parties - Tory lies, Labour scandal and Liberal ineptness.
