I think I see what OP is saying with that point, when speaking of innovation and influence on the animation industry- you really cannot compare the two. You cannot compare anyone to classic Disney because they invented so many ways of doing things and set so many standards that almost everything in the animation industry now is in some way an expansion of what they were doing back then.
This is not even about personal preference, it's just a fact that Miyazaki creates beautiful films but is mostly working with materials that were already there. Disney had that advantage in some cases, but not many, and even when the studio was not inventing they were always improving on techniques and technology.
The only comparisons you could make would have to be about a 3d animation studio, because 3d is a "new" medium in the way 2d was "new" in Walt's time, but I believe that will take you just into talking about Pixar.
You can love Miyazaki and you can even hate Disney, but you can't deny Disney's influence on the world.
