Don't let it get to you, just because your pairings aren't popular doesn't mean you can't still enjoy them. Just make sure to be respectful of other ships, okay? A lot of the hate for unpopular popular ships (like Harry/Hermione, Zutara, etc.) comes from the fanbase's reputation for insanity. Showing haters that not everyone who supports a pairing like that is a psycho obsessive die-for-our-ship fangirl can go a long way.

Given the two ships you've mentioned, I've noticed that you're shipping the main male character with the what can be considered the most featured female character.

Perhaps it's carrying over from the days of fairy tales/popular stories from youth where that's usually the formula--and you're mind has just become geared on pairing them because it was always right in the days where you were getting your feet wet with shipping. I feel like a few shippers I've talked to who ship similar unpopular pairings where this formula (and its opposite: main female with most featured male) get it from because in the majority of their favoite ships, it's almost always the exact same pattern.

I mean, at least with House and Cuddy (as much as they churn my stomach, no offense) the writers are playing with it. They tease you with it and have them toy with the idea. Harry and Hermione...well, I got nothing for you there because I've never seen any sort of spark there and Rowling at best threw you an evil!vision kiss as if she was making sure you knew it wasn't her cup of tea.

I wouldn't exactly call House/Cuddy unpopular. Yes, a lot of people hate it (although I don't think the problem is so much the pairing itself, but how the writers handled it in the last couple of seasons -- that put a lot of people off). But it's still the main het pairing in the House fandom (unlike Harry/Hermione), and you can definitely find MANY fans of it.

I don't hate the parings, I hate the people who are total dicks about something as unimportant as shipping. That goes for any ship, even the ones I like. Ship what ever you want, just don't do stupid shit like character bashing,author/creator bashing, or be an ass to someone who doesn't ship what you ship.

They aren't the most hated pairings in their fandoms. H/HR was unfortunate because it lost the canon war after years of vicious "my pairing is gonna be canon" shit AND it has a very vocal group of batshit fans.

Huddy may now be getting backlash because of the last season finale, but it's certainly not the most hated.

In any case, don't let fandom wars affect what you ship. As long as you don't rain on other's people parades, be happy :)

I do agree with what several other people said, though: if you're respectful of other ships (like House/Wilson), most people will have no problem with your own. I think with House, at least, a lot of the anti-Huddy stuff is just backlash from the pro-Huddy contingent (both the fans and the pro media).

(Full disclaimer: I'm a House/Wilson shipper who likes well-written House/Cuddy...and yet one of my biggest fears for the series is that House/Cuddy will become canon, because of how badly they seem to be writing the road to it.)

I admit I hate the H/Hr paring but not the fans. I sort of ship Cuddy but not latley. It's complicated.

Anyway. Why do you think so many people bash them? Because there are 1-2 fans who ship it? No because there are a lot of people. In my opinion these parings are really popular. Just don't get on people's neveres with insisting it is canon (even if Huddy is I guess) and talk about the paring in the comms for it. I've lurked in the Huddy comm and there are lots of nice people there. Sure there are always some crazies giving parings a bad name (as a Zutara shipper I should know) :)

You like what you like. Maybe one day you will ship a super popular ship and remember not to bash people who ship another parings respectfully. Maybe not.

Just don't let it get to you and if you want to talk about these parings there are enough communties on lj and on the net. :)

I know how you feel.

I started shipping H/Hr when I was eleven and first read the series. The hug towards the end was what got me into liking the idea of them. I had friends that would argue for R/Hr until they were red in the face, but I never saw it (this was pre-GoF). I still didn't see R/Hr, except as a one-sided thing, and when it happened, I still didn't feel it (I love Ron and I love Hermione, but that dynamic just never did it for me). I wasn't a rabid H/Hr shipper, and I really would not have minded OBHWF had it not been for the wank and the way it was written.

About a year ago, I got into Avatar: The Last Airbender. I didn't think about the shipping or know anything about the fandom, but the book two finale got me into the idea of Zuko/Katara. I cursed myself when I learned more about the fandom and how Zutara was viewed, plus that they weren't canon. It made me wonder why I get into these ships that have wank around them or that don't end up canon.

When it came to the second generation of Skins, I fell hard for Cook/Effy, mostly because Jack O'Connell and Kaya Scodelario had such amazing chemistry, among other things. I loved Luke Pasqualino, but Freddie was such a blah character and poor Luke didn't add much to the characterization. When Freffy happened in s4, I felt like it was strike three.

I never saw H/Hr as unpopular. It's just that the D-word wank, the Harmonian label catching on, and the actual batshit shippers made the whole faction look worse than the R/Hr shippers. So I can see the argument for H/Hr being 'hated', but not unpopular.

Huddy, however, seemed like it could've been popular and liked, but I think the biggest problem with them lies within the writing and therefore potential//theoretical 'character assassination' of House, and IDK maybe lots of fans just don't see any chemistry between Lisa and Hugh and prefer him with RSL *Kanye shrug* I loved H/C back when S4 was airing and haven't watched much past the finale, but I wouldn't be surprised if the execution for the relationship is not working now because lots of writers are awesome at building up pairings or just hinting at them, but then can't really follow through on them.

Anyway, I wouldn't worry about not liking the 'popular' pairings in those fandoms, OP. Ship what you ship and embrace your OTPs!

I can't speak for H/Hr shippers because I ship an even more extreme pairing: SS/HG (Snape/Hermione), but I thought that H/G were the most hated pairing? I'm not 100% certain though, cuz I'm not completely in the HP fandom.

As for House/Cuddy, the hate isn't really at the ship itself, but at how poorly the writers executed it. It was stated from the get go that they were eventually going to be the canon pairing of the show, and I think everyone understood that. But the way they completely fucked up the dynamic House/Cuddy had in seasons 3 through 6, the ship and the show, was destined to crash and burn. I hate to put it this way, but I suffered through all the bad writing and all the Huddy being shoved down my throat because I believed that the show was going to eventually get better. Then they throw out season 7, and I pretty much gave up. I don't like giving up, especially not on something I've been so passionate about for years. But House/Cuddy drove me there, not even my OTP (House/Wilson) can keep me interested in the show anymore.
