Thank goodness someone else thought this was depressing

I could barely watch it since I felt so sorry for the characters

Oh God I thought I was the only one.

I mean, it's a hilarious song but in a kind of grim context if you really think about it.

Oh God. This. This so much. I showed it to my family and we all thought it was hilarious but deep down that's because we relate to it so much. If you think about it, it really is a depressing song.

Weird Al is surprisingly great at this, but I think it's the first one where the music highlights how depressing it is. Usually there's a contrast that makes it okay.

Heh, interesting. I was going to make a secret about how this is my feel-good song.

Your interpretation is so different from mine. To me, it's a song about (slightly neurotic) ordinary people doing ordinary things, and for some reason that always soothes me and puts me in a good mood. I mean, I bicker with people like that, and I don't find it depressing. I agree that Weird Al can get pretty dark and grim (which I like), but I've never had it with this song.

Actually the saddest part for me is the fact that she doesn't get her chicken sandwich.

But I don't want to belittle your feelings or anything. Maybe it's because I never saw the video, perhaps that makes a difference.
