yeah the first time I saw Paz my reaction was "goddamnit Kojima". she doesn't even really look SIXTEEN to me.

Oh, you don't have to worry, your OTP is safe. Snake/Box is the main OTP in the game. He's only inviting Paz in because she's a mutual appreciator of boxes.

I listened this on my psp something like thirty times. The "What?!" of Kaz around the end of the clip makes me laugh EVERY time!

Guys, you know the age of consent in most of America is 16, right? Sure there's much more involved in that kind of age gap than legal status (and I doubt this takes place in America, but BB probably still thinks in US law), but someone at 16 in an adult relationship is a little different than someone who's 10 in an adult relationship, you know?

No, you're right. I mean, the way the Paz date was done didn't squick me because she wasn't as sexualised as I'd been expecting (and compared to how Kojima handled the BB Corp it was actually almost tasteful), but the 'Kaz was my favourite character until I found out he was a fag' crap on YouTube just makes me hate fanboy culture.

Homophobia aside, it's especially upsetting to me because the fact you get a choice between dating Kaz and Paz is one of the few intentional concessions to female gamers in the series. (Not that MGS isn't really girl-friendly insofar as games go, but I don't think Kojima ever has girls in mind when he writes it.) And so that just compounds homophobia and misogyny and makes me loathe everyone.

And the last thing that makes me rage is that it's not just on YouTube. I was checking a walkthrough for some info about the different outfits, and it had a really obnoxious comment about the Pink camo (http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/9/2010/05/500x_pink_snake.jpg) that 'it should be worn by female soldiers only, unless Big Boss is on a date with Kaz'. In a walkthrough. What the hell.

It's funny because my brother once told me that the kind of guys who wear pink shirts are the kind of guys who would flip their shit if another guy ever hit on them.

There is that iconic status pink has in parts of gay culture - pink triangles, the Pink Paper, etc, though I have a feeling that it has had its day and pink is now the gender-essentialist preserve of girls and of men who have too much to prove - and that makes me charitably wonder if that walkthrough was trying to connect BB with queerness culturally which is obviously bunk but not ill-meaning other than as if to say If BB Is Fucking Dudes Then He's One Of Those Other People Over There, Where The Girls Hang Out (You Know, The Girls, With The Cooties?), And Not One Of Us Manly Shunners Of Pink And Other Queer Things. Also kinda indicates that BB only has his gay on while fucking dudes and it magically goes away during other missions, which may be canon-accurate, but

More people are grossed out by it than you think, OP (even though I think Paz is actually older than that, but her design is a bit off-putting). As for the date with Kaz it's mostly the same old homophobic fanboys making most of the racket about that from what I've observed.
