Um. I follow him on twitter too and I fail to see what it is you're talking about. Examples? Anyone?

Because...I really doubt that what you perceive is what is true.

[identity profile] chardonnay.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
this exactly

(Anonymous) 2010-07-27 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
+1

All I'm getting from following him is that he's geeky and really kinda dorky and I <3 him all the more for it. Oh god he's a normal human being, what now!?

[identity profile] secretbutterfly.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly! I've even met the guy in person and didn't detect any of what OP thinks is there. (not that you can always tell that kind of thing from a short in person meeting, but still.)

Maybe OP is just a troll...

(Anonymous) 2010-07-27 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not, I think f!s trolls are kind of pointless.

I hate how he keeps trying to make really dumb phrases happen and clog up the twitter pages, but mostly the comment about Felicia Day taking her shirt off and this status update pushed me over the edge: http://twitter.com/NathanFillion/status/19314881769

[identity profile] secretbutterfly.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I guess we just find different things offensive.

Joking with some one who is his friend about taking her shirt off wasn't probably the best thing to do in a public forum. Which I think he realized considering he tweeted "BTW, whatever you do, DO NOT make "take off your shirt" jokes to @feliciaday at Comicon. No matter how funny u think ur being."
It's different when some one you know makes a joke like that vs a billion fanboys.

As for the slave Leia thing, I just put it down to being a horny sci-fi fan. How is it sexist to find two beautiful women dressed up like Princess Leia hot? Because I thought it was a hot picture that he shared, and that was all.

Do you find the catchphrases sexist too, or are they just dumb?

(Anonymous) 2010-07-27 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Just dumb, lol.

I think if it had've been just a picture of two Leias I wouldn't have been as bothered, but calling it debauchery and showing two women kissing to get titulated really rubbed me the wrong way.

[identity profile] secretbutterfly.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see how it would rub you the wrong way.

Maybe I tend to see the best in people too often, but I don't really think he meant it like 'lesbians kissing is debauchery, it's bad and dirty etc.' I'd just figured he meant like, it's comic-con, people do stuff they normally wouldn't do. IE, two girls who most likely don't know one another, kissing. Like, ooh fun and crazy times, it's comic-con!

Should I be feeling bad because I was titulated by the picture he showed? Or is it okay that I was turned on, because I'm a woman too? Not being sarcastic or confrontational, I'm just curious as to your opinion.
Edited 2010-07-27 22:36 (UTC)

(Anonymous) 2010-07-27 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I think it's fine being turned on by that picture. I don't hold against him that he was, however I think showcasing it on such a public forum kind of perpetuates the exploiting lesbian behavior problem we have in general (and the various sexist issues when it comes to comic con as well).

I think it was mainly a build-up of feelings from some of his tweets culminating in that one, that really soured me to him. I do hope it passes, because I used to adore that man.

[identity profile] secretbutterfly.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I doubt he was thinking of any of that when he posted it. Just saying.

I totally understand being soured on a celeb you like from reading their twitter, though. Sometimes you either have to unfollow and be blissfully ignorant of stuff they'll say that annoys you or just try and take everything they say/do with a huge ass grain of salt.

Good luck on the feeling passing! He really is a very nice guy, at least from my personal experience.

(Anonymous) 2010-07-28 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Just fyi, that was a retweet from @cyborgturkey. Hence the "via @cyborgturkey" thing. The only commentary he added to the picture was "Geekgasm. Just now."

I don't think it's going to change your opinion at this point, but I figured I'd let you know that it wasn't Nathan Fillion that declared it to be debauchery.

(Anonymous) 2010-07-28 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
That picture rubbed me the right way! *badum-ching*

[identity profile] michygeary.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, yeah, what a previous anon said. Nathan Fillion didn't write "Slave Leia debauchery at G4 party." That was the part he retweeted from someone else. Nathan's words were "Geekgasm. Just now." The rest was what he was quoting.

Of all the things to dislike about Nathan, I'm not sure you can argue sexism. =\

[identity profile] dark-kaomi.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
You do know he's a huge Star Wars fan right?

(Anonymous) 2010-07-27 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Trying to make his ridiculous phrases "happen" by spamming up the twitter pages. Double rainbow, bam says the lady, who the fuck cares?

Not to mention telling Felicia Day to take her shirt off and then posting a picture of two women dressed as Slave Leias kissing from ComicCon. He has a ton of female fans, he should maybe rethink this kind of shit.

[identity profile] poisonyoulove.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I admit, every time he comes up with a new catchphrase, the only thing I can think is "Stop trying to make 'fetch' happen! It's not going to happen!"

But since I publicly (but not on Twitter where he could see it) lust over him, I feel I have no right to judge things like the Slave Leias picture.

(Anonymous) 2010-07-27 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I really had to resist tweeting him that Mean Girls quote, I have to say.

I just have a severe issue with the fact that it's still deemed "okay" to sexualize lesbian behavior. It's dehumanizing and sort of pushed me over the edge.

[identity profile] poisonyoulove.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
If you had tweeted that to him, he might have retweeted it so his followers would see and go and harrass you on his behalf, like he did with that girl who was rude about Castle. THAT was the thing he did that ticked me off.

(Anonymous) 2010-07-27 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah that was one of the things as well. I really dislike when they attack their followers, like when he pointed out that the guy correcting him about 'nerdgasm' was wrong. There are so many, many tweets, why nitpick a small thing like that from someone who has so much less than you do anyway.

(Anonymous) 2010-07-27 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
he also got his fans to boycott a local no-name comic book shop because the guy at the counter had marked up a very popular selling-out comic to above cover price and wouldn't give him a discount due to his celebrity status

the guy's a c-lister who wants to feel like an a-lister by riling up his small-but-dedicated fanbase to rage for him :\

(Anonymous) 2010-07-27 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Considering the Slave Leias were dressed as Slave Leia, one of the if not the most provocative cosplay choices...well, I'm guessing they probably don't mind being posted on anyone's twitter.

(Anonymous) 2010-07-27 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not offended on their behalf, they were clearly posing for that picture. While I'm not thrilled by the consistent "cheesecake" at comiccon being one of the only ways women are supposed to dress and Slave Leia in particular is probably the worst offender, these girls are some of many and picking on them in particular isn't going to solve anything.

But neither is posting the picture for everyone on your twitter feed to gawk at with you.

(Anonymous) 2010-07-27 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok in that case I agree...basically any picture of an attractive girl dressed as a character that's generally considered "nerdy" will be popular on the internet really fast, and that annoys me and I wish people didn't keep tweeting those pics.

[identity profile] beandelphiki.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
She was dressed provocatively! She deserved it!

Seriously, what? Maybe they posed for that picture because they were okay with it being reposted all over the internet and being wanked off to by fanboys...

But assuming that based on the way they were dressed? Get the fuck out.

(Anonymous) 2010-07-28 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
If someone dresses as a legendary fanboy fantasy, in a huge crowd of fanboys, and then makes out for the camera... then YES THEY DESERVE TO HAVE THAT PICTURE PASSED AROUND.

What's so hard to understand about that?
