Oh, I wouldn't have wanted her to collapse in Aang's arms either, but there's a difference between "this isn't the time, but soon" and "I'm completely over my head and don't know what to do", which was the impression I got from her.

I don't mind Kataang as a pairing. I think they're cute together, though it feels a bit unrealistic and I wish both of them had been a bit older before they got together. Overall though, the pairing has a lot of potential. It's just that I see some very problematic things with how it was developed, which is a shame because I think it's meant to be a key theme of both their characters.

There are hints from both sides all the way back to the beginning of S1. It's the stumbling at the finish line that throws me off, especially as things have always been clearer from Aang's side. I have issues in general when the hero "gets the girl" without clear development of her feelings towards him but I wouldn't have those issues here if Katara hadn't withdrawn so much right before the end.

Yeah, the age thing bothers me for both of them and the idea of them being together forever makes my own issues sort of flare up, because I like the idea of people having other relationships than their soulmates (which is why I loved Sokka seeing Yue and Suki even though I am a huge Suki/Sokka shipper).

I do agree that there are issues with it, I actually really agree with the OP's points about there being room for criticism by saying it was out of nowhere is ridiculous. S3 was amazing, but it was very fast paced and not quite put together as S2.
