not the OP

(Anonymous) 2010-08-09 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I see were the OP is coming from.

I like the kind of fics that "don't want to see the story end" as you say, but I've also encountered a lot of fic that tries to "fix" things as the op states.

I've read comments from a bunch fic writers claiming that some author didn't handle x character well, or comments of the sort, so they, in their eyes "do it right".

Like the OP, I find that a bit disrespectful. In the end, it's not your world to decide, you didn't come up with it, so your opinion, as correct as it may be, will never equal the views of the author.

Unless, we are talking about something really, really bad... like Twilight. Please, someone fix that.

What's wrong with that, though? And you just introduced my counter-point with your last line. If you're going to treat each piece of original fiction like a pristine jewel - worth more than any fanfiction written because the author came up with the idea - why? There are pieces of original fiction, like Twilight, that aren't written very well, and there are pieces of fanfiction that are written much better. So just... coming up with the idea for a world is worth more than actually being able to take said idea and develop it successfully?

This

Frankly, I don't understand why people get their knickers in a bunch over any kind of fanfiction and that whole "the author's word is God" mindset. Once a literary work is released into the world people will take from it what they will, and if "fix-it" fics are the only way some fans can still enjoy a work, so be it. Frankly, I'd rather those fans get it alllllllllllllll out via "fix-it" fics rather than splashing their butthurt across every public discussion forum where it's much harder to avoid.
