I wouldn't be surprised-- it seems like there have been a lot of wanky, kind of butthurt Transformers secrets posted lately.

Quite a lot, yes. I've never been in any other fandoms, so I wouldn't know, but people say the TF fandom is very wanky. It didn't seem so until I started hanging out here, though. :'D

Eh. There are pockets of massive wank in the Transformers fandom, absolutely, but those can be easily avoided. My main barometer of whether a fandom is wanky or not is whether badfic is generally well accepted or not... and in Transformers fandom, the overall trend for most fans is to be pretty indulgent towards even the crappiest crap that ever crapped.

I kind of love that all kinds of ridiculousness generally has it's circle of supporters, and I also love that the people who crankily dislike the badfic are still usually polite enough not to go slamming the writers directly about it (hey, that's what fanficrants is for, right?). It helps that the fandom has a fair mix of really young and really old supporters, and also is pretty evenly split between male and female fans. The demographics are pretty generalized and the overall fandom experience is fairly decentralized, so... people tend to end up where they want to end up. It's actually amazingly easy to get through Transformers fandom and hardly ever have to deal with any wank at all. But for people who ENJOY wank... well, that's there too. :)
