Except Ianto died in Day 4. Nice try though. I started watching at CoE and absolutely loved it until I watched the first two seasons and realized how INCREDIBLE STUPID it was for Jack to say 'We can't just go in and threaten to shoot them' and then... Go in and threaten to shoot them.

I'm a little late to the party, but here are some writer recs, even though some aren't writing like they used to. I didn't know what floated your boat- but here are some really decent folks. I will admit, without shame, that there's a lot of Janto love- but more importantly, over all, there's a lot of quality writing to found in this list:

a_silver_story, angstosaur, arwen_kenobi, beesandbrews, blackbird_song, blue_fjords, buttononthetop, d8rkmessngr, faithharkness, jovialien, kalichan, larkworth, remuslives23, rina_angyl, sierasky, , tanarian, tanarian5, teachwriteslash, and temporal_witch. I agree with the comment about sam_storyteller- who is truly excellent.

I would also recommend http://community.livejournal.com/tw_itallchanges/ if you are looking for an alternative season three that actually makes sense and is incredibly well written. Hope that helps.

Are you sure? I mean I've read a couple of really good ones (and more than a few guilty pleasure ones,) but nothing that would make it stand out above other fandoms. For me that spot still belongs to the Weiss Kreuz fandom (unless SPN comes through and changes my mind.)

Obviously you can post a secret like this and not rec. ;)

I just bought mine but I'm pretty happy with it.

But I haven't had a console since my cheapo "Family Game" like 15 years ago, so I can't compare to the new ones.

It plays the games, it plays blu-ray discs, it has a flash drive to play media files and you can even get Netflix (I can't because of location). That's good enough for me *shrugs*

It sometimes seems to me that you have to dredge through a lot of really, really, tear-your-hair-out, gouge-your-eyes-out, scream-in-frustration BAD Torchwood fic to get to a good one, never mind a great one.

That's not to say that there aren't some really good Torchwood fics out there, because there are, but I definitely and sadly haven't had your experience. I've been in the fandom from the start, and after four years the list of fic I would actively rec to people adds up to about sixty. Out of thousands upon thousands. The majority of fiction in TW fandom seems to fall prey to character assassination, ship warring, obnoxiously bad spelling and/or grammar, or cliche heaped upon cliche.

In fact, in TW fandom I have looked at the reviews things got or read something people have praised effusively in a rec, and sometimes I wonder if the standards are set a good deal lower than in others I've been in. Maybe fandoms like Stargate Atlantis, Supernatural, Due South, Whedon- and Sorkin-verses spoiled me for other fandoms before I got to this one, who knows?

Still, I'm glad you've had such a good experience of fandom and of Torchwood in particular - anyone who's not having at least some fun is probably doing it wrong. :D

I am totally with you on this OP. I was so spoiled by so many great writers that its hard to even know where to begin in another fandom. Plus, so many of the great TW writers are moving on- or worse! A lot of the stories are feeling more and more cliched. It makes me sad. I miss how it was.
