Um. Hi there...me? Well, except for the Engineer-main bit. I dunno, I guess maybe some of us *cough cough* who take TF2 a little too seriously and think of them as "characters" rather than "classes" etc probably got to thinking of Engineer as the relatively sane one. Or at least the calm and pragmatic one. So Engineer being that flavor of crazy...it is more than just a little bit creepy.

Does add a level of nuance to his character, though. Ah, dangit! I mean class! Class!

Well I mean have you heard his laugh? The dude's a mad scientist. He may be calmer and more sane than the rest of his teammates, but cutting your hand off FOR SCIENCE doesn't strike me as that out there to me.

No, yeah, and I cracked up the first time I heard that laugh, because it seems so delightfully at odds with his Meet the Team video, until you think about it and realize that it's just that downhomey Texan twang that throws you off. He's totally a mad scientist. I just figured his mad science was more about building guns and weapons and less about self mutilation...and honestly, it just seems so impractical, not just from a day-to-day standpoint, but from a weapon-building standpoint. That's a lot of fine motor-control to sacrifice so he can...y'know, I'm not even sure how the robot-claw really works.

I say he lost his hand after it was irreperably crushed by a giant robot from the future who came to abduct his fiancee Chell and drag her back to Aperture for GLaDOS, who is the Administrator's brain in a machine body.

I'm of the belief that he always had the prosthetic arm, it was just hidden by the glove he wears normally. I know the models don't match up or whatever, it's entirely possible that he has more than one for different purposes and the Gunslinger is just for combat. My personal theory is that it got splinched when he was still testing the teleporters to make sure they worked. At the time, they didn't.

Considering how much time he spends working with heavy machinery, explosives, and weapons of various flavors, it probably wouldn't be a stretch for him to have a nasty accident. Or for him to decide to put his problem-solving to work fixing it himself since he had this on the shelf somewhere.

I still wish they would have added more to that comic, but it might have killed the story a it if anyone else on the team found out what was going on...Well, one more canon name, can't complain too much.

I'm gay for gay, but I also hate the fandom porn due to how I disagree with what 90% of the fandom's fancies are. It's their skewed view on how they make dominate charas act submissive, and submissive ones act dominate...

That kind of thing is alright once in a while, but it's always produced on massive levels in this fandom.

Hmm...I'm willing to bet that a tf2channer made this secret, considering all the tf2channer regulars are agreeing with it in the comments.

TF2chan has fucked up TF2 so much, that they have officially made their own canon that they follow more than the actual TF2 story and character personalities (i.e.: Sub Spy, Cuanta Vida...the horrible shitty art-story comic).

Are you fucking kidding? The chan BATHES in the new canon that Valve provides. And do you know why TF2chan follows "their own canon?" Because TF2 still has very little on its own, and it's developing at an extremely slow rate. But when Valve does update TF2's story, the chan adapts and absorbs the new story elements very quickly and quite well; no one on the chan is claiming anything they've crafted from their own mind is canon.

Anyway, the blog post announcing the Gunslinger pretty much confirms that Engie chops his own hand to use it. My headcanon that eases it a bit though, is that each time he respawns, he does so with his entire hand. Respawn treats his newly-severed hand as a typical wound, it allows him to switch between his normal arm and the Gunslinger, and he has to commit amputation whenever he wants to use the Gunslinger (which is pretty twisted and funny to me).

Not sure where you're getting a lot of this information, honestly. Most of the channers love the Gunslinger and fics and fanart started showing up immediately after the update. A large amount of them don't like Cuanta Vida at all and much bitching goes on whenever any of the classes are portrayed way too out of character.

Not saying that there's not an ENORMOUS amount of slashing that permeates the entire board (which gets pretty tiring if all you want is good non-gay fanart), but there's no "official" tf2chan cannon that everybody follows. If there is I missed that memo.
