Oh. This is a pretty stupid question to ask, and irrelevant to the secret. But is Dave being a ginger canon now? I feel like I'm missing something whenever I see fanart of him with red hair. I always just assumed he was blonde, so.

I think AH said on formspring once that because a lot of people liked his hair as orange he could have orange hair, but I'm pretty sure that's not hard canon. I personally always preferred the orange, myself, but either works.

I happen to prefer a blond Dave myself, but my opinion was swayed by some friggin' sweet cosplay (http://s892.photobucket.com/albums/ac125/chronalchalkdust/Otakon%202010/Homestuck/?action=view&current=384.jpg). It's just a fanon choice, kind of like how I prefer art wherein John and Jade look vaguely Asian (largely because I am also Asian, though probably of a different sort than they'd be).

Yeah, Dave would irritate the hell out of me if he were an actual person, but it seems like his asshole hipster act doesn't go much farther than skin deep, so... he can stay.

I never had the impression that he was a douchebag? That kind of typing style is in fashion right now (Hussie even says it's based on his and his friends') and while he does play up the irony stuff, that just seems like a defensive thing that he does. He's never outright insulted any of the other kids' interests I think? Him and the others are good friends, whenever he disses them it's just because he knows the others won't take him seriously!

Ok I'm a little biased because my internet style is sometimes quite like his >:/

I think he's a little more appealing than the typical indie douchebag because you can tell he at least cares about stuff, even if he typically takes pains not to reveal it. Notice how huffy future Dave got when John said he was going to talk to "real" Dave. Sure, he'd been through a lot in the alternative timeline, but he's still only a few months removed from the Dave we have now.

I used to think that he was the kind of person you have him pegged for. I found him frustrating to read about, and would have agreed with you about the purple hearts. The Bad Future arc made me reassess that, though, and since then I've been reading him with an eye for what the indie douchebag act is covering up. I still doubt I'd get on with him if I were ever to actually meet him, at least at first, but from a reader's perspective, I like him and respect him a lot.

I mean, he sacrificed his humanity to save his friends. Give credit where credit is due!

I can't say I agree! I've loved Dave from the get-go. I think it's refreshing to see a character who doesn't need to come out of a shell; the Bad Future arc and his birthday note to John only made me like him more.
