My mom smokes and I'm pretty damn poor. I've known a lot of people in my situation who smoke as well. And a lot who don't too.

I don't know, call me sensitive, but I don't like somebody giving the character an addiction based on something like if they're poor. :/

I know that I worded it sort of poorly and I apologize. I come from working class and I know many people who treat cigarettes as the only luxury available for them (as the anon you replied to had said). It's not that I think that somebody poor = nicotine addict. That's just a bit of characterisation that always seemed to just fit for me, because I've seen people like that irl and I understood their motivations (different than just smoking for the sake of it, call it a cultural thing or something). You know, write about things you know and so on.

I'm sorry if it sounded classist. I hope I made myself clear now.

Smoking also helps people with mental illnesses focus.

Worth the $7 I spend daily on a pack of smokes. (I'm not poor, obviously.)

Wow, if cigarettes costed that much here, I doubt I would ever written anyone poor as a smoker. They would have to spend like, 25% of their monthly payment.

My mom smokes because she says it helps with her anxiety.

And you know, the whole addiction thing.

I can see where you're coming from and I don't think you're trying to be classist, but I'm just very sensitive over this stuff and something about this still bothers me? I don't know, like I said, I'm really sensitive over this.

But I do see where you're coming from and thank you for trying to explain.
