She reminds me of the victimized, self-centered but ultimately manipulative bitches I've met in my life. Maybe she's a great character to hate, but I hope she dies, and I hope Andrew doesn't turn her into a martyr to redeem herself.
Also, she gets a lot of love. It's really annoying, to me.

What's actually interesting to me about her is that unlike the huge bitches one knows in real life, you actually get to see the insecure, immature, scared girl beneath all that who doesn't know how to relate to people properly, is aware of it, and lashes out in whatever desperate way possible to try and fix things only to cause even more drama because she's just that fucked up. Makes you wonder what kind of people the assholes you know might be like, if only you really knew them. Or maybe I'm just open to this interpretation because I've known far too many terrible, terrible people in my life yet stupidly persist in thinking of the world as a generally okay sort of place. Whatever.
Alternatively, I also like the theory that her exile is Snowman and she's screwing Vriska over for shits and giggles. Because it's hilarious. Whatever Vriska's deal is, she's the sort of bitch that's fun to read about, so I can't really bring myself to hate her outright.

This so much. There's no condoning her behavior, but as much as I want to smack her sometimes, I still have an enormous amount of sympathy for her. She is hugely mentally ill and she knows it, and the only thing she can think to do about it is torture herself and everyone around her. She's miserable when she doesn't get her way, and she's even more miserable when she does, because she knows she doesn't deserve it. She hates being hated and hates being pitied and hates hates hates hates until it hurts. It's tragic and uncomfortable and awful. I love her.

I agree with this for the most part, except I cannot bring myself to sympathize with Vriska. Her actions and her pity points have balanced out on the scale of What-the-fuckery and so now she's just another character to me. Sort of like I consider Aradia just there, since I can't feel anything toward her because she is mostly emotionless.

I had a friend who adored her and couldn't understand why I didn't despite her being my patron troll, a ghost, half-frogsprite, and then a robot. I just have no feelings towards her, positive or negative, because there is nothing about her I can relate to on any level. You could say that I'm just... 0kay with her.

As for the second part: I can see how that could work, but for me it's all qualitative rather than quantitative, so no balancing occurs. I am fully capable of both sympathizing with her and being pissed off with her either alternately or, on some occasions, simultaneously.

I am pissed off at her and, while I can't exactly say sympathetic, I pity her somewhat. It's just that the two kind of canceled each other out. Now it's obvious that she is just going to keep doing horrible things (maybe) and then she'll do things that make her seem pitiful (maybe), so I doubt I will ever really be all that sure.

I don't like what she does, but I know why she does it. Even in real life to total strangers I try not to be such a judgmental bitch even if it's my knee-jerk reaction. If I was such a judgmental bitch I would miss out the awesomeness and rich complexity and characterization of characters like her. She's a product of her circumstances, her culture, her upbringing, and her high caste. A lot of people would say they wouldn't do what she did if they were in her circumstance but pffttt...
So I kinda pity/sympathize her but I would like to see her develop. I can't wait to see how she is when the trolls are stuck in the Veil, she might be more mature than when she started playing.
