It's more like "How could you write off an entire genre all at once?"

Like someone said upthread, it's like saying you hate all movies or something. You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but this particular one makes you look like a narrow-minded killjoy.

Eh, even as someone who does like it, I could see how someone could not... Maybe they don't like anime as an art style. Maybe they don't like the slapstick that's popular in many, many of the more popular series (I certainly don't, but I've found more serious series that don't have it, due to branching out in the genre - I wouldn't expect everyone to do that). Maybe how some fans act about it has turned them off to it. But their dislike for it doesn't necessarily make them a killjoy. I'm not into baseball, so when people talk about it to me, I don't understand what they're talking about, it bores me, and I kind of want to talk about something else. So, you know, I'll leave the conversation. I don't care that they like it, but I can't even meaningfully participate in the conversation, sooooo...

It's not the dislike that makes them a killjoy so much as the "HOW DARE MY FRIENDS TRY AND INCLUDE ME IN THEIR INTERESTS" tone of the secret.

I mean... I can understand not liking the mainstream Fruits Basket type of stuff (I don't really care for it either), but there are hundreds and hundreds of series out there with wildly different art and writing and etc. I think OP could try a little harder to find some common ground, if she really cared about keeping these friends (but it sounds like she never liked them much in the first place).

Eh, there's "trying to include" and then there's "shoving on." I've had both happen, and I read the secret as though the latter was happening. Could be wrong, obviously.

Yeah, that's pretty much how it sounds: "Anime's not my cup of tea, I'm cool with you liking it, but please stop trying to turn me on to it EVERY FREAKING TIME WE TALK". As an anime fan myself, I have to admit some of us can be incredibly annoying sometimes.

At least the Op is level-headed enough to admit anime's not his/her cup of tea, without going into hysterical "OMG ANIME IS SHIT AND SO ARE YOU FOR LIKING IT, YOU WEEABOO FAGGOT!!!11111ONE"-style ranting. And for that I commend said OP.
