Why is he an elitist douche? I follow his twitter and I've never really noticed? Is it the music tweets? Am I missing something? :(

I think maybe it's the whole indie thing and how much of his QC dialogue revolves around it? Idk, I've only got an impression from how he writes his comic but whenever he has them go on about indie bands or makes references to them I just skim over it.

He likes indie music, the characters like indie music. I don't, but I still don't see how that would make someone elitist (unless one thinks that's an inherent quality of indie fans?).

Yea, he seems pretty nice to me. I guess the word I'm looking for is pretentious? it gets so old to hear(read?) about all the random indie bands for the sake of his "omgrandom" jokes.

to clarify omgrandom, I mean, "and then they blew everything up!" type jokes, where he usually ends a page with them comparing some band to the situation and what the band would do/what kind of song they'd spin off it. or something. idk. I stopped paying attention a looong time ago.

While I haven't had any experience like this first hand, apparently his first could of years of con-going he came off really snobbish to the fans. But as I said, that's just what I recall hearing.

I really got no idea why people think JJ is an elitist douche but I sorta suspect it could be the "anti-indie-kid" backlash where if you have particular indie bands that you really like their music and you're not really impressed by others that the bigger record companies are behind, you're automatically an elitist douche.

I freely confess that I've never read JJ's twitter; I've never read anything but the comics themselves and sometimes the little commentaries he writes below the comics. Maybe on his twitter he does what really makes the difference between an indie kid and a hipster douche: treats the "correct" musical taste as actually making those who possess it better people.

But I strongly suspect that in reality, this is a case where JJ has done nothing worse than actually have his own musical tastes and talk about them on his own blogs, and OP with a chip on his shoulder is reading JJ's comments about music and thinking "How dare he! He's calling a band that I never heard of one of the best bands out there! He must be thinking he's better than me for knowing who they are and liking them! That elitist douche!"

Maybe I strongly suspect this because I suspect OP is the same one who posted the secret about hating the "hipsters" (the main cast) in JJ's comic who were "pretending" to be Hannelore's friend while they were secretly (in that OP's imagination) laughing at her and mocking her behind her back. That was a complaint that was founded in someone projecting their own issues with "the cool kids" onto an inappropriate target, and I suspect that this is too, whether it's the same OP or not.

I always thought he seemed like a pretty cool guy too, but for me the twitter kind of ruined everything, and now I think he's just kind of a troll. I mean, he hates on bands that are well liked by a large number of people and gives no reason for his dislike.
Like Muse, for example. The only reason I've ever seen him give for not liking muse is simply because "they're terrible."

I guess so. Twitter's hardly the place to go in depth for reasons, though. But I see how that could get under someone's skin.
