Man, I've read all the books except for last one too, except for different reasons.

I say go for it, but I like reading the books before the movies because I can keep my interest more if I don't know the story yet. HOWEVER reading first often leaves me disappointed in the film adaptation...

Read it first. The movie will seem more fulfilling because your brain will fill in the missing pieces of the story.

As for the OP, if you're the kind of person who likes to watch the movie and then read the book afterwards, that's what you should do. There's no wrong way to go about enjoying different forms of a story.

In this case, I don't actually have a choice. I read the entire seventh book the day after it came out.

I read DH the day it came out not stopping for anything but food and bathroom breaks. I didn't even get on the net, Mom was shocked. I was up till around 5:00 AM, and I got the worst headache I have ever had in my entire life. I regret nothing ♥.

I would think that watching the *movie* would ruin you for the book more, yes? Because then you know what's going to happen, and the book's going to be better than the movie, almost without a doubt. Even Order of the Phoenix, which is my favorite of the movies, does not hold a candle to the book. So, I would say: READ IT!

You could always watch the first DH movie and decide after that if you think you can still wait to read the book. I personally wouldn't have the willpower to hold off on reading the final book, so in a way, kudos for you for even thinking of trying.

I'd say read them first, at least that way you'll have a better comprehension of the story. Whenever I see the movies with my mom, afterwards, I have to go into detail about what was happening and for what reason, ha.

I strongly recommend reading the book first, especially since you said you keep the movies separate from the books.

Also, IMO not having read the last one yet doesn't in any way make you not a ~true fan~. I totally understand wanting to put off the final book or not having enough time to read it. Whichever medium you go with first, I hope you enjoy it!
