THIS. I could have written this. In fact, I was about to write something like this.

Baccano! is under appreciated to such an extreme that I haven't been able to watch Durarara! without feeling a little resentful. ;;

Forget Izaya and Shizuo. I'll take Claire and Ladd fights any day.

Oh wow, this. I just finished watching Durarara!! today. I don't really know what to make of it because I did enjoy it, but throughout the whole series I had a resentful little (okay not that little) voice in my head going "This is the popular one? Really?".

and I agree with anon that Ladd and Claire > Shizuo and Izaya

I like Baccano better as well, but DRRR has Shizuo and Izaya and everyone and their mother ships them.

That's really the only reason I think one's more popular than the other.

Agreed. Almost all of the "slashable" male characters in Baccano! have canon female love interests that they're deeply devoted to (though you'll occasionally see Luck/Claire or Maiza/Firo here and there) and I really think that because of that, there's no hook for the rabid slasher fandom to grab onto, so the fandom remained pretty small and underactive.

Meanwhile, Shizo and Izaya are every !foeyay slasher fangirl's dream, so Dulalala! explodes in popularity in comparison. It's a bit obnoxious.

Agreed. I just love Baccano - definitely one of my all-time favorite anime. I just love the characters, and the story is just amazing.

Am I the only DRR! fan that doesn't ship Shizuo/Izaya? I think it's because I hate Izaya and think he's an arrogant prick that deserves a severe beating. Goddamn, that troll-faced fucker.

Also, yes, Claire and Ladd >>>> Shizuo and Izaya. It sucks that Baccano's not getting the second season it deserves.

I agree with everything here. This is totally my favorite show.

The fandom used to be busier, but with DRRR!! coming out and the show being over for a few years, it's really cooled off.

But if you randomly happen to be a cosplayer, all the Baccano! gatherings I've been to (granted, I've only been to ones in California) are AMAZING and tons of fun. So I guess the fandom's not quite dead, it's just quiet. And it needs to be jumpstarted somehow!

Don't worry anon, we exist, just in an extremely quiet way. Of course I feel that Baccano is 100x better than Durarara would or could ever hope to be, but it still ended up way more popular. I for one think that merchandising also helped perpetuate its extreme popularity. But hey, at least its licensed in English? (If you don't live in any part of the world that actually has it licensed I apologize >///<)
