A kid being used as a sex partner for an old man is no reason to feel for the kid? Or even him being alone and treated like garbage isn't? His little brother dying? The fact in the first episode he referred to himself as dirty? None of those make you feel for Alois?

I don't know, this sudden "OMG NOW I FEEL BAD FOR ALOIS!" just gets to me. To me, he's been a sympathetic character since the first episode, even with the eye gouging. He's shown how lonely he was since day one.

Well maybe because in the first episode it was only hinted that he had been sexually abused rather than really shown and thrown in our face. I only felt sorry for him when his past was revealed and when he begged Ciel not to kill him. Of course I didn't think he deserved it in the episodes before but he certianly treated people badly enough for me to dislike him.

His sexual abuse wasn't obvious? Um. His body is covered in bruises, he was naked in bed with an old man, and he didn't look happy. Yes, that seems healthy. Then people in the comms pointed out that that old man seemed to be his 'father'? Oh, and Alois calling himself dirty. Really, those were not enough hints? Seriously?

Like I said it wasn't thrown in your face like that there was no backstory to it. Yes even if he was abused that was sad but it doesn't give him the right to wrench Hannah's eye out or to treat her the way he did. He's obviously a troubled child with a trauma but so is Ciel and that made it hard to sympathize with him.

His whole character is about his loneliness and wanting to be loved and IMO anyone could get that from the very first ep...

Yeah, I'm with you on this one. I can see why people can dislike him and I don't think his past excuses some of his behaviour, but he pushes all of my sympathy buttons and has done so pretty much all season. I think the fandom has had this discussion in the past, but I don't see disapproving of his behaviour and feeling sympathy for him as mutually exclusive, so.

I definitely don't think what he did to Hannah can be excused. It was horrible. And I can definitely see how people dislike him. But Alois, he just...as soon as he called himself dirty? I wanted to hug him. He's a fictional character, but it's so wrong that a kid would think that way about themselves.
