Listen, I don't even ship K/S. I ship Spock/Chapel like burning. BUT IT WOULD BE A BIG FUCKING STEP TO SHOW TWO MEN WHO KICK ASS ACROSS THE GALAXY IN A RELATIONSHIP TOGETHER.

The "enlightenment" part is not about the ship, it's about the significance of taking two iconic characters who do all the things that are supposedly macho and stereotypically straight and showing people through media that hey... Kirk can be in love with Spock and still be the best captain Starfleet has ever known.

It's simply a happy coincidence that a whole shit ton of K/S shippers are also advocates for equal rights and that these two interests merge.

Personally, I'd rather they let Kirk fall in love with Bones so Spock could be with Chapel, but whatever.
