Wow, some of the comments in this thread kind of grossed me out. There was a costume for this, with a plastic armband? God, puke.

Don't get me wrong, I liked Mulan and Aladdin, and those two had just as many racial issues. I just found Pocahontas kind of boring and stupid, personally (nice music, though).

But WTF to all the people saying they can't really see the problem with the movie other than some "inaccuracies." Uh, live under a rock much? When this came out, I clearly remember so many people being so disgusted with it that I didn't even go see it at the time. I think my parents refused to take me (in protest), but I didn't really even ask, because what I heard about its racial issues from my friends at school put me off.

What the hell? I figured any hate for it would be due to it not reflecting history (which is silly - the real Pocahontas story was a bit horrifying what with the statutory rape and all, and heck, it's not like ANY OTHER DISNEY MOVIE based off history, a book, or a folktale reflected the source accurately; for example, HOND changed the source material much more than Pocahontas). People have a problem with the idea of peace between races, and loving nature, and not persecuting Native Americans? WHY?

Wait. Don't tell me it's because they're reading some kind of "white savior" message in it like w/Avatar -- John Smith screwed up big-time and was about to get his head chopped off, and Pocahontas saved his ass. Just...how could anybody have a PC fit about Pocahontas of all things?
