SHEATH. FFS. There's something called a sheath. Knife, pointy end in sheath, under pillow.

If you're too cheap for that, put the damn thing between the mattress and the boxspring, handle sticking out.

(ALSO can't sleep without being in easy reach of a knife, NOT fandom related, but at least not an unsafe moron about it).

I just keep a few large potted cacti within arm's reach. They're very throwable, and the pots would shatter and make a ton of noise as soon as they hit the wall or floor.
