And it doesn't make canon sense because when Giles smashed Anya's necklace in season three's 'The Wish', he says that all her curses will be reversed.

:P You aren't, it's a single line mentioned once in seven seasons. The Wish was just one of those episodes I rewatched obsessively. And for the record, Giles does say "should reverse" so I guess you can call that a loophole. I still think it was sloppy writing while Joss abandoned Buffy was creating Firefly.

MIND=BLOWN. How have I never noticed this?! I've watched Buffy at least five times all the way through.

XD I was on my feet yelling at the TV like Xander's abusive parents when the episode aired. Season six was the death of me. It took me seven years before I was able to forgive Joss enough to watch Firefly and Buffy's last season.

I've always assumed Giles was overstating because a) he has like, one book on Anyanka that is really vague (it never even uses the phrase "vengeance demon") and because if -all- of Anya's -thousand years of wish-granting- was reversed then the world would be way, way different. I have to assume it only cancels the most recent wish.

To this day I still believe the marriage would have worked as long as they were both willing to work through any problems they had, and by that point in the story, I think they were ready for that.
For several episodes after this I could not stop glaring at Xander.

Aw, I just get irrationally excited when I see Anya secrets. She was such a great character - I wish they'd done more with her!

IA, Anya's one of my favorite Buffy characters. Love your icon by the way. :)

She and Cordy were my favorites, so it's always a pain to not see them in the comics.

I love Hell's Bell's but I still agree with you, Anya and Xander should have gotten married, dammit.

So much this. See, I could have bought Xander having doubts about being married, due to all the things his parents had put him through, but he wouldn't FUCKING LEAVE ANYA AT THE ALTAR. Agree 100%. And then the final episode, Anya deserved so much more. There was just no point to either decision, other than Joss doesn't like happy people.

On the upside, it gave us "Selfless" which I would say is the best episode of season 7. Plus Emma Caulfield got to actually act, plus Willow FINALLY got to tell Buffy that she didn't tell her to kill Angel in Becoming Pt. 2.

I liked Anya and Xander together and the reason he gave for breaking off the wedding was stupid and I hated that everybody pretty much turned their backs on Anya after that.

But I'm kind of relieved they didn't get married. Giles/Anya FTW!

Among the worst episodes of the entire series, for sure.

I agree they totally mishandled the break up. The break up itself was fine, but they just sort of skimmed over it, didn't milk it, or show at least a few discussions between the couple over what happened.

I've always felt the same way. I liked them together so much and that wedding episode was just lame
