TB!2

[identity profile] jlh.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
So this is the thing, about her. She does these comics and then part way through she gets kinda bored with the main characters and the story she's started and gets more into the side characters. So then she short changes the story she spent all that time on and everyone was into, and faffs off and starts over with her new favorites in the central roles.

I wish she'd do short run stories that have a definite end, but whatever. If you are sort of annoyed by this, don't read her comics. If you think it's kind of cool, keep reading them. But she's done this more than once.

N!S1: I'm not quite sure what you mean by this, but I really like that picture.

TB1: Oh my word, this is a great theory. I like the idea that, even in animal form, Snape still has an extremely sexy voice. XD

TB3. If your friends are taking a webcomic so seriously that they will hate you for having a different opinion, rather than, say, being respectful about it and agreeing to disagree; you need to get new friends.

TB4. This. Every time I see a trigger that mentions being raped or molested as a kid, yet never mentions therapy, all I can think is "Well, what are you waiting for?"

Re: TB3, TB4

[identity profile] leafing.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Therapy is expensive as fuck. Even if you have the money for it, it's often difficult to get a therapist to see you.

Re: TB3, TB4

[identity profile] sharknasty.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know that. Still, if one has the money for it, then there is no reason that they shouldn't at the least make an attempt.
Also, occasionally insurance will pay for therapy.

Otherwise, there isn't much I can tell ya.

totally OT, but your icon. do you have the original?

Re: TB3, TB4

(Anonymous) 2010-09-17 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Therapy is not an instant fix. It can take years before you make any progress whatsoever, and even intensive therapy over the course of years may not get rid of someone's triggers. From what I've heard, PTSD is very hard to treat, for both the patient and the therapist.

Re: TB3, TB4

[identity profile] sharknasty.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNOW it isn't an instant fix, but it can help someone cope better than they can alone sometimes. I'm not saying that it is MAGICKAL FIX DESU~ I'm saying that if people have the option (moneywise, etc. etc.) then they should at least try it.

Re: TB3, TB4

(Anonymous) 2010-09-17 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
How do you know they aren't? Your comment implies that everyone who talks about getting triggered should just get some therapy, as if getting therapy would instantly cure them of their PTSD.

Re: TB3, TB4

[identity profile] sharknasty.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Didn't I just explain that I know therapy isn't an east fix or an instant cure? Seriously, pay the fuck attention son.
But if they don't mention that they are getting help, how the fuck am I supposed to know they are? I'm not psychic.

If I was, that would be kind of cool though.

Re: TB3, TB4

(Anonymous) 2010-09-17 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
So, if someone doesn't mention therapy, you assume both that they haven't tried it, and that they can afford to try it but just haven't bothered.

Yeah, you sound like a bit of an idiot here.

Re: TB3, TB4

[identity profile] sharknasty.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
If they don't mention therapy and seem to need it, I think "Gee, maybe if they have the means to get it, they should."

Gonna be honest here, I don't give enough of a shit to bother arguing this with you
Because I
don'treallycare.

Therapists would be the first person to tell you to avoid triggers, etc.

I like this comm but I like to avoid the secrets involving suicide if I can. Since it takes too long to explain to you exactly how bipolar disorder works and how triggers work (google it) I'm just going to ask you why some red text in front of a secret is so fucking inconvenient for you? YOU CAN STILL READ THE DAMN SECRET.

I go to therapy, but I still talk about my ~feeeelings~ on the internet. Doing one doesn't necessarily preclude the other.

TB1 - When I read the B!S, I was getting lost. This was pretty awesome.
TB4 - And you're not my therapist, slut.

Re: TB1, TB4

Why are you even commenting to f!s? Go be offensive somewhere else. Almost everything you've said so far is sexist in some way. Jesus fucking Christ.

Except not. You're just sore because I occasionally use the word slut.

TB!3Your friends would hate you?

Seriously?

TB!4 I suppose it saves on therapy bills. That shit is expensive.

While I can agree with the "F!S is not a therapist" sentiment -- not everyone can afford a therapist, FFS.

I have written Magic-related smutfic, though not for any planeswalkers. If you want it, it's here:

For me (at least) this raises the question: are there any AUs in which Snape is sorted into Gryffindor? (He'd be a dark one, as befits this secret, but I could see it.)

TB4

[identity profile] elenauial.livejournal.com 2010-09-18 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
If you don't want to counsel people, don't. No one's making you. And yes, F!S is no one's therapist. But sometimes people do want to reach out and help other people.

But there's no obligation.
