Maybe I remember wrongly, but wasn't at least one FF character really based on Gackt?

Yep, that was Genesis. (the first character in that picture)

Gackt was also his Japanese voice actor.

Yeah, Genesis (of Crisis Core, the one on the top left) is both based on his looks, and voiced by him.

I also think Squall (FFVIII) was based on his looks, IIRC, and possibly Tidus (FFX) was too. No connection to the rest (I don't really think he's that similar to any of the others, aside from the hairstyle - the face shapes are too different).

I heard somewhere (an FF wiki I think) that Squall's look was meant to be based on River Phoenix, not Gackt, but I have to admit the resemblence is definately there.

Maybe it was only Squall's clothes/style that was inspired by Gackt? But yeah, I don't know for sure whether it's just a persistent rumour or not. The only one I know for sure is inspired by Gackt is Genesis.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was one of Gackt's outfits that Nomura based Squall's on. While his face was inspires by RIver Phoenix.

But I'm pretty sure the rumor itself came from a misunderstanding in an interview with Gackt. He said he calls Squall "Gackt 2" in the game, and for some reason, people thought he meant that Squall was based off him.

Makes sense - it's not as if Gackt's face is very similar to Squall's. Just the clothes and (somewhat) the hairstyle, really.

Especially LOL @ Aerith, Paine, Quistis... and a few others, what's up with the weird hair O_O
