it depends on the area of the us, though. some places are full of people with german or irish ancestry and there are catholics up the butt.

now, the south is still a little anti catholic. but the us is a diverse place, it's not cool to generalize.

Read up on the times around JFK running for president, and how lots of people were totally freaking out about his Catholicism because they thought that having a Catholic president would mean the US would be ultimately controlled by the Pope.

Edit because I was unclear: IIRC, this was not confined to a particular geography like the South.

Also, I didn't mean to make it sound like a command. If you wish to read up... :)

I dunno about that. I just went down to Virginia for a vacation and my dad pointed this out to me- there are NO Catholic churches. There was plenty of Christian sects, a Synagogue, even a mosque, but no Catholic Church.
