I don't think OP is saying that. I think OP just finds it annoying when someone has to point out all the time that they're popular or BNFs. Honestly it bugs me too.

I get that, but sometimes it is an important part of the secret to them. Being popular puts certain pressures on people. It's not always bragging.

I realize it does put pressures on people who have to write/etc. to a higher standard because their work is popular. But I just feel when people have to point it out in anything outside of a "I hope I can stick to this standard" type of sense, I don't know, it just rubs me wrong.

I think the point is that claiming you're popular, or feeling the need to mention it time and again kind of negates any credibility to such a claim. But that's just my take.

Right but I think mentioning it in a secret where you feel it is important to what you are trying to say is a different issue. I don't think there is really anything wrong with someone saying that they are popular.

Oh yeah, absolutely. If it's related to the secret, yeah throw it up there. The thing is, I tend to think when, say the S!B bit is "OH I'M SO POPULAR WHAT WOULD PEOPLE THINK WITH ME SO POPULAR!?", the OP has a completely valid point. lol

I guess we'll agree to disagree...I've never been popular (that I know of O_O) but I still don't think there's anything wrong with someone worrying about that. I mean, everyone is different, said "popular" individual could be someone with a high anxiety disorder or...or ANYTHING so they worry about the mundane "what would they think if they knew this weird thing about me!?"

And I can see where you're coming from. There are exceptions. I'll never apply this to every single case (though I may have come off that way... my bad) but I think there might be a fair few cases where it's just a chance to say "Look how cool/loved/fabulous I am?" and really, I don't think that needing to do that makes someone more cool/loved/fabulous. *shrug*

I'm also not fond of complaining about people liking you. That seems like a silly thing to complain about when no doubt there are worse things to have happen than people enjoying what you do. *shrug* But again, that's just me.

I do find it annoying when people deem themselves BNF. I'm not sure why, but it rubs me wrong when people have to go on about how popular/rich/beautiful, etc. they are. I guess I figure if you are you sorta take it in stride and don't feel the need to prove something that should be obvious.

IMO if it's relevant to the secret then mention it. Otherwise you're just throwing it out there for the sake of hitting the point home that you're popular and seriously, who cares?
